Hispanic Access Foundation Announces 2026 Dates for Latino Conservation Week

Category: News Releases

Hispanic Access Foundation announced today the 2026 dates for the 12th annual Latino Conservation Week (LCW) to take place September 12 to 20. LCW is a nationwide celebration of the legacy, leadership, and longstanding connection between Latino communities and the outdoors. The initiative engages Latino communities, organizations, businesses, families, and faith communities in celebrating the outdoors and advancing conservation efforts nationwide.

Throughout the week, participants will host and attend events such as hikes, kayaking outings, park clean-ups, roundtable discussions, film screenings, virtual expeditions, and advocacy forums that elevate Latino voices in natural resources protection and decision-making.

“Latino Conservation Week is both a celebration and a reminder of the vital role that Latino communities play in shaping our environmental landscape and nation,” said Maite Arce, President and CEO of the Hispanic Access Foundation. “It reflects the deep cultural, familial, and spiritual connections that Latinos hold with nature, honoring the valuable contributions they make as they expand influence, drive lasting change, and build healthier ecosystems for future generations.”

Now in its 12th year, LCW has grown from nine events to a national movement hosting more than 230 events annually. This growth reflects the power of investing in community-based organizations and leaders who are best positioned to mobilize their communities, shape solutions, and influence systems that have historically limited access and representation.

“Latino Conservation Week is a profound reflection of Latino values, their bond with the environment, and their vision for an inclusive and sustainable future,” said Luis Cruz, Latino Conservation Week Coordinator. “We are proud to continue this tradition, bringing communities together in celebration, action, and unity in the outdoors. When communities are engaged, conservation of our natural resources becomes even stronger.”

The Latino population in the United States now exceeds 65 million people—more than 19 percent of the nation’s total population—and is projected to approach one-third of the population by 2050. Nearly half of all youth in this country are youth of color. Yet access to nature remains inequitable. Communities of color are three times more likely than White communities to live in areas with limited access to parks and green space.

At its core, LCW reflects a simple truth: when communities are engaged, conservation for our natural resources is stronger. Creating access to the outdoors, fostering a sense of belonging, and supporting community-led leadership helps inspire long-term stewardship that benefits both people and the environment.

In 2025, with more than 150 partners and sponsors, LCW hosted over 230 events nationwide. Organizers expect continued growth in 2026 as the initiative expands its reach and deepens its impact through sustained community engagement and leadership development.

LCW 2026 will offer opportunities for partners and participants to host events, volunteer, sponsor activities, and amplify community-led conservation solutions that strengthen both communities and ecosystems.
