Getting to know the Grants and Agreements Office at the International Institute of Tropical Forestry

¡Saludos! My name is Ashley Mariani Ríos, and I am part of the Forest Service Resource Assistance Program (Cohort 8). I am working as a Program Support Specialist at the office of Grants & Agreements of the International Institute of Tropical Forestry (IITF) in Puerto Rico. My background is in environmental sciences and project coordination, but I’m excited to explore this new career path. I’m really enjoying being part of the team that works behind the scenes to make sure all the paperwork and processes are in order before grants or agreements are awarded by the agency.

There are a lot of regulations, procedures, and details to evaluate before a grant or agreement can be executed so I know I will be learning a lot during this year. Although I officially began my internship a few weeks ago, I feel very comfortable with my new colleagues. Everyone at the IITF is guiding me and making sure I feel secure in my new role. One of the things I like most is they are making a very inviting atmosphere that allows me to comfortably ask questions. I am also enjoying spending time with my fellow interns as we all navigate this new chapter of our lives. I know this is only the beginning of an amazing journey, and I cannot wait to see what comes next.
