This weekend, the third annual Latino Conservation Week (#LatinoConservationWeek, #LCW2016) kicks off, continues through July 24 and will be celebrated with more than 100 events nationwide. The week is an opportunity for Latinos to demonstrate their passion for enjoying and protecting public lands through various outings, volunteer cleanups, educational events, roundtable discussions, film screenings and numerous other community activities in 17 states stretching from Massachusetts to California. 

PIERRE, S.D. -- This week marks the third annual Latino Conservation Week, and organizers are shining a spotlight on the Latino community's concern for preserving South Dakota's natural resources. 

This week is Latino Conservation Week, and local groups are putting on events to draw more people to the outdoors. The Hispanic Access Foundation, the Sierra Club, Conservation Land Foundation and Chispa are helping organize the event in Nevada. 

Place matters to all people. Latinos included. Many of our families have lived in this great nation for a long time and have lived on and worked the land. In some cases, our stories in those places are told today, and many are not.

Nevada is known for its rich natural heritage. From Lake Tahoe, our treasured Jewel of the Sierras, to the mountains and high deserts of the east; the seas of sagebrush of the north to the red rock canyons of the south, Nevada is as beautiful as it is unique. Millions of Americans and visitors from all around the world come to Nevada to hike our mountain ranges, hunt and fish, and enjoy our stunning wild landscapes.

As part of the week-long push, several groups are encouraging Latinos to go camping, hiking and engage in other outdoor activities.

This week is the third annual Latino Conservation Week, a chance for Latinos all across the country to demonstrate their passion for enjoying and protecting public lands. Few places is that passion more evident than here in California.

2016 marks the third annual Latino Conservation Week, an initiative of Hispanic Access Foundation (HAF) to harness the Latino community’s passion for the outdoors and spotlight its role in conservation.  It started with just 17 partners and 17 events.  Now, there are over 100 partners and events that are engaging Latino communities throughout the nation.

It's Latino Conservation Week, and groups across the nation are focused on access to public lands for Latino families. All this week, groups will be hosting events outdoors to promote recreation and the protection of natural resources. 

This Saturday marked the start of Latino Conservation Week, a week dedicated to building awareness among Latino communities of the beautiful public lands and outdoor experiences available to them, and the importance of conservation. It is also about reaffirming their connection to nature and the land.
