Daniel Miguel

Community Navigator

Daniel is a first-generation Cuban American from Miami, FL. Growing up near the Everglades, Daniel has felt a connection to the environment and wildlife from a young age. His professional and academic background involves conservation education and community-oriented work that promotes equity and building sustainable communities. He is also passionate about the rights of migrants and asylum seekers, water and food security, and humanitarian assistance.

Daniel holds a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in International Development and Humanitarian Assistance from the University of Florida. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, writing, discovering new music, and reading about history and international politics.

 

Why he works for Hispanic Access…

"I work for Hispanic Access Foundation because I care deeply about the betterment of the Latino community, environmental advocacy, civic engagement, economic development, and education. Hispanic Access works at the intersection of all these issues to improve the lives of Latinos throughout America."

"I enjoy reading, music, traveling, swimming, and hanging out with friends and family.”

His favorite book…

“My favorite book is Freedom’s Mirror by Ada Ferrer. Freedom’s Mirror is about the Haitian Revolution’s reverberations in Cuba and it is a masterful work of historical writing by one of my favorite historians. This book sparked my interest in the Atlantic World and it inspired my honors thesis research on the history of second slavery in nineteenth-century Cuba.”
