Hispanic Access Foundation Debuts “Historias de Esperanza” Short Film A Powerful New Film Exploring Faith, Healing, and Mental Health in Latino Communities

Category: News Releases

In honor of National Mental Health Day and Hispanic Heritage Month, Hispanic Access Foundation proudly announces the release of its newest short film, Historias de Esperanza, which follows the lives of three Latino individuals who courageously share their mental health journeys of pain, resilience, and renewal within their faith.

Through moments of vulnerability and hope, Historias de Esperanza reveals how each individual finds healing through their faith in Jesus, the love of their church families, and the strength of shared community. The film is part of Hispanic Access Foundation’s Iglesias Sanas, Comunidades Sanas (Healthy Churches, Healthy Communities), an initiative that equips Latino faith leaders and congregations to foster conversations and support around mental, physical, and spiritual health.

“Mental health challenges affect every community, but stigma often keeps too many Latinos from seeking help or finding space to heal,” said Christine Tamara, Chief of Networks at Hispanic Access Foundation. “Through Historias de Esperanza, we want to remind our communities that healing is possible—that through faith, compassion, and community, there is hope.”

The film delves into the lives of Lucía, Luis, and Dr. Tanya Paniagua as they open up about their personal struggles with mental health and faith, inspiring viewers to embrace open dialogue around mental well-being and to seek holistic healing—spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. Dr. Tanya, founder of the Breath of Life Foundation, is dedicated to bringing mental health awareness and restoration to the Church as a global speaker, advocate, and pastor. Luis, an Intake Coordinator at Union Gospel Mission (UGM), continues to walk with the Lord and heal from past wounds of addiction and gang involvement. Lucía, a devoted mother, continues her journey of recovery, using her story to remind others that healing from suicidal thoughts is possible and that hope can be found in every step forward.

Historias de Esperanza will premiere at nine select churches within our network throughout the United States in October and November of 2025. Future film screenings will also occur in 2026, with the film becoming widely available in 2027.
