David's experience began with running his own business. He later moved into leadership roles with Target Corporation and H&R Block.

As the Director of Multicultural Initiatives at H&R Block, David worked with Hispanic Access and other nonprofit and community partners to reach local communities and share education about the importance of paying and filing taxes.

David is also active in his church and has served in various ministries including homeless, adult education, children, and marriage. David graduated from Colorado Christian University with a bachelor’s degree in organizational management and received his Master of Theology from Liberty University.

Why he works for Hispanic Access…

“Twelve years ago, in my previous role as Director of Multicultural Initiatives at H&R Block, I had the opportunity to lead a tax education program in partnership with Hispanic Access. Working with the Hispanic Access team and seeing their dedication to helping marginalized communities of color inspired me to maintain a close relationship with the organization. I have always been an advocate for my community and when the opportunity to join the team opened up, I decided to apply. Working for an organization that is focused on strengthening communities inspires me, and I am proud to know I have a position that allows me to support and advocate for my community.”

In his spare time…

“Family time is at the top of the list of how I like to spend my free time. I enjoy reading, road cycling, and serving at my church in various ministries. Kids’ ministry is one of my passions, and I serve as the lead for our children’s Spanish worship service.”

His favorite book…

“My favorite book is Bless Me Ultima by Rodolfo Anaya. Anaya is from New Mexico, and his stories are very relatable to me. Having grown up in the same area that many of his narratives take place, the stories really come to life. He has a way of sharing the culture that resonates with me. He also wrote a book where some of the dialogue is in Spanish while narration is in English; this is reminiscent of how I grew up in a dual-language home where adults typically spoke Spanish and the children spoke English.”

A person he finds inspirational…

“Dionicio Morales is one of the most influential leaders in my life. He is the founder of MAOF (Mexican American Opportunity Fund). He was a tireless advocate for Latinos, and he fought for workers’ rights. He once said that Latinos not only need rights in the fields, but they also need opportunities to work in professional roles. He inspired me to be an advocate for my community. He showed me that there are no boundaries to becoming anything I wanted to be.”
